First Harvest

First Harvest at Gracia Real de Santa Teresa de Mose, you’re there in 1738. And will witness the processions, pageantry, ceremony, Musket firing and cannon salutes surrounding the first harvest at Fort Mose. The first legally sanctioned free Black community in North America.

Join in the celebration as Manuel Montiano, the wise Royal Governor of Spanish Florida and Captain Francisco Menendez, members of his free African militia, Spanish Soldiers and members of the Fort Mose community (woman of fort Mose) officially celebrate their first year of hard work to bring in their first harvest. Witness the official blessing of the harvest by the local Friar. This Event is Free and Open to the Public ‘Viva Mose’ come join us from 10am until 1pm.
